The Global Learning Programme Scotland provides fully funded professional learning opportunities across Scotland delivered by the regional Development Education Centres.

These may be training courses, opportunities to share and develop practice or day-conferences with challenging speakers and practical workshops. Some may be more informal sessions where you can explore global citizenship resources with expert guidance or find out what other teachers are doing in your area and what challenges you share. They can support the development of global citizenship, learning for sustainability and children’s rights across your school and your own practice and contribute to Professional Update. Many teachers who have worked with the Development Education Centres have gone on to gain GTCS Professional Recognition in Global Citizenship (now under Learning for Sustainability).

WE ALSO WORK DIRECTLY WITH LOCAL AUTHORITIES, CLUSTERS, LEARNING COMMUNITIES AND SCHOOLS TO PROVIDE TAILORED SUPPORT. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, PLEASE CONTACT

Though not compulsory, we recommend that at least two teachers from a school attend events – this adds value by ensuring that there are opportunities for peer support back in school and helps to build towards the kind of whole school work recommended under GTCS and Scottish Government’s commitment to Learning for Sustainability.

While all courses are free to participants, we do require that all complete a teacher questionnaire and short school audit both at the beginning of your engagement and again after your training.
You can search here for events by date and by region. Teachers are welcome to attend events in any region. You can also contact your local Development Education Centre direct.
